Chippenham’s international high-tech boom attracts medical science business

A start-up medical technology business has moved into carbon-neutral office space at Bewley House in Chippenham, joining four software technology companies already at the location, including Siemens and two other international businesses.

CheqUp focuses on providing advanced weight loss programmes using breakthrough medication, and is one of only seven companies approved to provide digitally enabled weight services to the NHS. By moving into this central Chippenham location, CheqUp is able to take advantage of outstanding connectivity to the rail and motorway network.

James Hunt, CheqUp Director, said: ‘We are delighted to be opening our new distance-selling pharmacy in Chippenham. We needed a location that was practical and attractive for our growing team and Bewley House is perfect.’

Chippenham is home to an expanding range of high-tech businesses, attracted by the town’s transport connections and a growing skills base. Russell Frith, Wiltshire Council Inward Investment Manager, commented, ‘Chippenham is one of Wiltshire’s most important centres for tech businesses. Of all the M4 towns, it has the quickest access to the motorway and rail networks, which means excellent travel times to nearby towns as well as London, Bristol, Cardiff and beyond. These advantages are clearly an attraction to some of the UK’s most exciting businesses.’

With planned growth in housing and town centre enhancements, Chippenham is a primary focus of development in Wiltshire. Official projections are that the overall population grows by 4.3% over the next 10 years, but as a major settlement and important commuter town, Chippenham is likely to grow faster, with significant business investment to match.

Bewley House, which offers energy-saving features and parking spaces with EV charging, is owned and operated by commercial property provider HPH. ‘What we’ve experienced with Bewley House seems to be part of a trend for high-tech businesses to locate in and around Chippenham,’ said Lindsay Holdoway, HPH’s Managing Director. ‘Even though Bewley House has all the advantages of a town centre location, it is also a short walk to the train station and a short drive to the M4 by road, bringing Bristol, Bath and Swindon all within reach of a 30-minute drive.’

HPH were advised by leasing agents Alder King and Huw Thomas Commercial.

CheqUp have taken over the Ground Floor West Wing suite of Bewley House, leaving just one suite left available in the building.
