In support of Big Energy Saving Week 2020, we can reveal an energy saving of over 50%
The UK Green Building Council has identified that office buildings need to reduce energy demand by 60% if the UK government is to achieve its zero carbon targets by 2050. During Big Energy Saving Week, we are delighted to share energy savings of over 50% at one of our properties.
Big Energy Saving Week (20th-26th January 2020) is a national campaign brought by a partnership between Citizens Advice, the Energy Saving Trust and the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, to raise awareness of the importance of energy efficiency to promote saving money and reducing carbon emissions.
Bewley House, which is home to international blue-chip companies in the technology and software industry, has seen significant innovation and investment and the installation of many energy and resource saving features including, voltage optimisation, intelligent LED lighting and advanced window film technology.
Current tenants set to benefit include Canadian software company Descartes Systems Group Inc, global technology giant Siemens and international consultancy Ramboll.
Reports for the office building from 2018/2019 show the total tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent ‘tCO2e’, has reduced by 56% compared with five years earlier in 2014/15. (Tonnes of CO2 equivalent allows the comparison of greenhouse gases relative to one unit of carbon dioxide).
The tech hub has seen a reduction of 56% from 187.15 tonnes in 2014/2015 to just 83.12 tonnes in 2018/2019 as a result of our approach. Through our Environmental Management System (EMS) constant analysis of energy consumption provides opportunities for further savings.
Managing Director Lindsay Holdoway said, “We are delighted to see over 50% reduction in energy usage at Bewley House amidst the climate change issues we are all facing.
“HPH has been a carbon neutral company since 2010 and we aim to be both sustainable and forward-thinking, taking a different approach to property ownership which has enabled a total saving of 542t achieved across all of our managed properties.
“We were the first property company to secure funds from Lloyds Bank’s green lending initiative in 2016. The financial benefit and support of the Bank has assisted in our continued investment in energy and resource use reduction.”
The renovation of Bewley House also includes new shower facilities, improved cycle facilities, electric vehicle charging points, a new basement gym, and excellent digital connectivity with a wide choice of broadband services.
