Monkton Combe’s Wheelwrights Arms pub to reopen in 2025

Monkton Combe’s Wheelwrights Arms pub to reopen in 2025 with exciting plans to revitalise the venue

The much-loved Wheelwrights Arms pub in Monkton Combe is preparing to relaunch in the new year, as excitement builds among locals and the pub’s many fans in the Bath area. The new owner, Jack Golden, intends to breathe new life into the historic venue.

‘I’m excited to be taking over The Wheelwrights Arms,’ says Jack Golden, ‘and I look forward to revitalising the space. The pub has always been a key part of the community, and I can’t wait to share the refreshed venue with everyone when we reopen in 2025. We aim to create a welcoming environment that both locals and visitors will enjoy.’

The Wheelwrights Arms occupies a superb position in the heart of Monkton Combe, nestled in a beautiful valley with views of the wooded slopes surrounding it. It has a cosy, inviting indoor space with a roaring open fire, and wonderful gardens that come into their own on sunny afternoons.

The pub is only 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Bath and attracts both the city’s visitors and Bath residents. The charming village has a great local community, strengthened by Monkton Combe school, and staff, parents and visitors are regular customers. The Wheelwrights has developed a following with walkers and cyclists too, as it offers a very convenient stopping point on the iconic Bath Two Tunnels Circuit, a 13-mile circuit from Bath.

‘We had a lot of interest in the opportunity at The Wheelwrights Arms, and we’re very excited about the new operator taking over,’ says Lindsay Holdoway, Managing Director of Bath property company HPH, which owns the pub. ‘They’re bringing fresh ideas, a new approach, and a clear vision for what they want to offer, which is great news for both the local community and the wider area the pub serves. We’re really looking forward to seeing the pub thrive under their direction – and, of course, to having dinner there soon!’

The pub’s exciting new chapter is getting closer. Get ready to experience the revamped Wheelwrights Arms in 2025.
